I'll risk going it alone

After dropping everyone off at school, I was mindlessly listening to the radio during the drive home to work.

I was too lazy to lift a finger to change the channel when a commercial played. So there I was listening to a pitch about a program from New York Life. They said something along the lines of there being a guarantee that I wouldn't outlive my money.

that may be well and good. It is a perfectly prudent thing to make sure you have enough money to live while you are living. But for the life of me, my first impression was that once my money got low, New York Life would kill me. Guaranteed.
